God, in giving the command to Adam and Eve not to eat of the tree, was protecting them from Satan’s wish to introduce another power to Adam and Eve that would rule them in place of the power of God. Satan introduced knowledge that would compete with God. Adam was required to use the sovereignty of his will for obedience to God, which act God termed “faith.” God spoke to Enoch and said, “And I gave him (Adam) his free will, and I pointed out to him the two ways; light and darkness.

And I said to him, ‘This is good for you, but that is bad.’ So that I might come to know whether he has love toward me or abhorrence, and so that it might become plain who among his race loves me” (2 Enoch 30:15). When Adam chose to use his sovereignty with his imagination against God, God termed that disposition disorder as “sin.” Sin then produced these fruits of iniquity in the soul:

Galatians 5:19-21
19Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these;
Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
20Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife,
seditions, heresies,
21Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of
the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past,
that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of
God.

As Adam also desired autonomy and to rule independent of the light of God, another design entered into him that followed the pattern of Satan. The conscience, being blemished by sin, works all uncleanness and justifies itself by that law which condemns the soul and makes faith void of the power of Christ. When the conscience is satisfied with the imagination, it then becomes a law for the principle of man to work with. This is called wickedness, being the deceitfulness of sin (Heb.3:13).

The power of sin is entwined in these things. It then becomes clear that the fruits of sin cannot be isolated from its generative roots; they come with an entire system and kingdom. The system forms the works of the flesh and carries and nurtures this fruit. Satan fathered this system and works with this system to inspire and nurture this fruit.
